Profile

Dr Ooi Pei Boon is an associate professor at the School of Medical & Life Sciences, Sunway University. After graduating from Universiti Putra Malaysia and as a registered counselor with the Malaysia Board of Counsellors, Dr. Ooi uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in her counseling practice. Her works broadly focus on the relationship between human interactions and the planet, specifically the human-computer interactions that lead to social issues and psychological health concerns. She is also a master trainer licensed to train others in cyberbullying intervention programs, for which she has obtained various grants to support this initiative in Malaysia.

Dr. Ooi Pei Boon is a distinguished expert in Guidance and Counselling, having obtained her PhD from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. She is a registered counsellor under the Board of Counsellors, Malaysia and presently appointed panel counsellor for the Malaysian Bar Council and Executive Member for Board of Counsellors, Malaysia.

She has actively contributed to various community initiatives, conducting seminars and workshops for organizations including Robert Bosch (M) Penang and Petronas, as well as schools and higher education institutions. Dr. Ooi’s role as Chief Operating Officer at a higher learning institution allowed her to influence and support students’ well-being profoundly.

Dr. Ooi is dedicated to significantly impacting mental health awareness, particularly among the youth. Her research interests lie in exploring the intersection of cyberbullying, mental health, and marginalized communities, particularly visually impaired youth.

Her unwavering passion for mental health advocacy and her extensive experience made her an invaluable speaker for discussions on teenage depression and mental well-being at the Mind Matters Rally.
